Patient Recruitment - Retention Specialty Firm MediciGlobal Launches European Operations
January 2008, Philadelphia, PA - MediciGlobal, the global leader in patient recruitment for clinical trials expanded its global operations with the opening of an office in London, U.K. The U.K. location better serves the global patient recruitment and retention needs of pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
MediciGlobal, headquartered in the biotech corridor of Philadelphia, has specialized in clinical trial recruitment for the past 17 years, and globally for the past 7 years. Previously, the company worked in an alliance arrangement, and this year decided to run global operations out of Europe directly. With a growing list of international clients and a changing clinical trials environment, the company saw the European office as an opportunity to directly expand its global reach, according to a MediciGlobal spokesperson.
“Clinical research studies are becoming increasing global,” said Liz Moench, President and CEO of MediciGlobal. “Our European office puts us in a better position to meet the needs of our European and international clients.”
As part of this expansion, MediciGlobal has hired several executives whose focus is solely on the unique needs of a global marketplace:
James Bohan joins the MediciGlobal team as Senior Director of Marketing, bringing to MediciGlobal over 22 years of pharmaceutical marketing experience. A strategic global thinker, Bohan has marketed pharmaceutical and healthcare programmes to more than 60 countries. He has also worked in various international roles across the industry on both the client and agency side. He knows and understands the particular challenges facing modern life science companies. Most recently, Bohan worked for IMS Health America and Activity Benchmarking Ltd. At IMS, he was the Group Director of Marketing Intelligence and worked closely with large pharmaceutical companies to define their needs and develop innovative and focused solutions. At Activity Benchmarking Ltd., Bohan helped implement industry “best practices” across multiple disciplines (i.e. sales, research and development, etc.) for Europe’s top 20 pharmaceutical companies. In his new role, Bohan will build on his background by delivering the new technologies and processes developed by MediciGlobal to the European healthcare market.
Penny Westmacott continues her work with the MediciGlobal team as Account Director, with over 7 years of pharmaceutical, marketing experience to MediciGlobal. She previously worked for the company with whom MediciGlobal had an alliance arrangement. She works with top tier global pharmaceutical companies and has a proven project management background – her global programmes are consistently completed on target, on time and on budget. With significant experience developing multi-national medical education programmes, Westmacott understands the varying cultural and legislative landscapes within global clinical development. She is also experienced with all aspects of the communications mix including copywriting, PR, and advocacy. Most recently, Westmacott worked as a lead project manager and member of an international project management team at a European marketing communications agency. Here, she was responsible for developing unique global programmes that accelerate patient recruitment and maximize retention. In her new role, Westmacott will address the challenges that naturally occur when conducting international patient recruitment-retention programmes on behalf of MediciGlobal’s clients.
Liz Moench concluded “many companies call themselves global, yet when it comes to implementation the offices around the world operate in silos. To foster globality we have an active exchange programme between the two offices. This has served to create one unified global team with global experience and provides our client’s with access to the very best international clinical trials marketing available.”
