MediciGlobal to Chair International Patient Recruitment Conference in Amsterdam February 2009
Senior level industry executives from biopharmaceutical companies of all sizes, will come together specifically to formally and informally discuss issues related to patient recruitment and retention for clinical trials.
Amsterdam February 18 - 19th 2009
Patient Recruitment and Retention Europe 2009: As clinical studies grow in complexity, patient recruitment and retention becomes ever more problematic, leading in many cases to drug development bottlenecks, delayed studies and increased costs. All pharmaceutical companies want to find cost savings, and even more so in today’s challenging economic environment.
The pharmaceutical and biotech industry conducts large numbers of clinical trials each year. Regulatory requirements, as well as other scientific and marketing needs, mean that many of these studies continue to need ever-larger numbers of patients. There is much to discuss and to further understand about patient recruitment and retention, and this important conference is an opportunity to become up to date with the latest information, while networking with industry colleagues.
The conference is designed specifically for senior level executives (Directors and above) with responsibility for: Clinical Research, Clinical Operations, Clinical Monitoring, Clinical Trials, Clinical Site Management, Patient Recruitment and Medical Directors.
So far, senior management from the following companies are confirmed to speak: Amgen, AstraZeneca, Baxter, Boehringer-Ingelheim, GSK, Janssen Cilag, Lundbeck, Merck & Co., Inc./MSD, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Roche Products Ltd., sanofi – aventis Netherlands BV, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals
On the first day of the two-day conference, Liz Moench will specifically address the topic of Patient Recruitment in Tough Economic Times. She will show that while it can often be hard to see, there is a bright side to an economic downturn; it causes companies to become more efficient and productive. They do this, in part, by focusing on areas that use the most resources, and there is no area more resource intensive than the clinical trials process.
With fewer than 20% of Life Sciences companies (pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical devices) completing their clinical plans on or ahead of time due to lack of enrolment, Liz Moench will specifically address critical strategies aimed at saving recruitment time and cost, and ensure study success. Her presentation will include issues pertaining to:
- Strategies for minimizing the 80% chance of recruitment failure
- Modelling and forecasting for realistic budgets and deliverables
- Improving the chances of developing effective recruitment strategies
- Reducing cycle time to recruitment launch
- Applying performance data to maximise recruitment return on investment
- Establishing accountability for performance; timelines and cost management
- Proactively intervening in the recruitment process to improve recruitment performance.
