Intrepid MediciGlobal Employee Tests his Limits in the UK’s Three Peaks Challenge

MediciGlobal Account Director climbs the summits of three mountains in 24 hours for cancer research.

King of Prussia, PA and London, UK (January 11, 2011) – Adding to MediciGlobal employee’s track record of participating in extreme charity events, in late July 2010, Account Director Duncan Shaw took on the UK’s Three Peaks Challenge for Cancer Research UK.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest mountain summits in Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, respectively. However, the key to the challenge is that they must all be completed in a 24-hour period, so it is a race against the clock. The hike encompasses some 46 kilometers (26 miles) of trail, while the whole journey (including the drive from mountain to mountain) is 765 kilometers (475 miles).

Many people who take on the Three Peaks do so in order to raise money for charity. Duncan and his teammates chose to support Cancer Research UK, a charity that is close to his heart, raising a total of $4,256 (£2,736) so far. “I lost my father to pancreatic cancer in 2007, and ever since I have been keen to support cancer research wherever I can,” he explained. “Last year I successfully completed a trek up Kilimanjaro to raise money for this worthy cause. It was an incredible experience and a great personal challenge, which gave me an enormous sense of personal achievement – both in terms of the physical challenge and knowing that I was helping to advance research in cancer treatments. So when a friend approached me this year and asked if I would be interested in joining their team, I accepted without hesitation.”

For many years, MediciGlobal employees like Duncan have been volunteering their personal time to extreme charity events to help promote medical research for organizations of their choice. Over the past 12 months, MediciGlobal team members have skydived for Alzheimer’s charity, volunteered for MS bike tours, participated in marathons for cancer research, and driven auto-rickshaws across India. President and CEO Liz Moench encourages participation in charity events outside of the workplace. “The team shows their true dedication to our work for patients and advancing clinical research by giving their personal time to such causes,” she commented.
